Rural Development Office—Excellent Resource For VI Businesses To Obtain Finance & Technical Help
by VIBusiness Staff

Congressional Delegate Donna M. Christian-Christensen announced that the Virgin Islands Quarry, Inc. will receive a $1,500,000 loan from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Development Office. According to the Delegate, the loan will allow the Quarry to hire 30 workers and resume its operations of making sand and aggregate available to the construction industry. The Rural Development Office is an excellent resource for VI businesses to secure financial and technical assistance, said the Delegate.
USDA Rural Development financial programs support such essential public facilities and services as water and sewer systems, housing, health clinics, emergency service facilities and electric and telephone service. Rural Development Office also promotes economic development by supporting loans to businesses through banks and community-managed lending pools.
According to Christensen two more organizations on St. Croix are slated to receive funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Development Office. Legal Services of the Virgin Islands, Inc. will receive a loan for $692,500 to construct a new office building to operate community programs. And, the St. Croix Landmarks Society, Inc. will receive a $25,000 grant to install security lights and repair damage to the roof of Estate Whim Plantation Museum due to hurricane damage.
"I am pleased that organizations are taking advantage of the resources available through the Rural Development Office. I hope that we will see many more funding announcements in the months ahead," Delegate Christensen said.
