Opportunities for everyone!
|
Investors, vendors and others interested in establishing a casino or doing business in the growing gaming and entertainment industry should contact the Virgin Islands Casino Control Commission. There are many opportunities in this industry for Virgin Islanders and for off-islanders.
Even world superstar Michael Jackson came here as an investor to explore business opportunities.
Already one casino resort is under construction and scheduled for opening in December 1999 and a second casino venture is pending review and approval by the Commission.
The Virgin Islands and Resort Control Act of 1995 provides for six (6) casino hotels in St. Croix, Virgin Islands. They are divided into the following categories:
CASINO I permits for the development of a hotel providing for a minimum of 1,500 qualifying sleeping units, 35,000 square feet qualifying indoor public space, 20,000 square feet casino room and a convention banquet center that would accommodate a minimum of 3,000 persons. A hotel under this designation must be situated on 380-400 acres. Only one hotel is permitted under this Casino I category.
CASINO II permits for the development of a hotel providing a minimum of 300-1,499 qualifying sleeping units, 10,000 square feet of qualifying indoor public space and a 10,000 square feet casino room. Two hotels are permitted under this Casino II category.
CASINO III permits for the development of a hotel providing for a minimum of 200-299 qualifying sleeping units, 7,000 square feet of qualifying indoor public space, banquet facilities for a minimum of 500 persons and a freestanding off-site or on-site casino room. The on-site casino room cannot exceed an area of 7,000 square feet if it is to be located in the historical district of the town closest to which the hotel is located. A Native Virgin Islander must own 51% of the casino hotel in the historic district.
CASINO IV permits for the development of a hotel providing a minimum of 150-299 qualifying sleeping units, 2,000 square feet of qualifying indoor public space, a 5,000 square feet casino room and banquet facilities for a minimum of 500 persons.
The Casino Control Commission has developed a comprehensive set of gaming rules and regulations designed to protect the casino employers, casino employees, casino players and the community. A copy of the Act and Rules and Regulations may be obtained from the Commission for a modest fee.
