LICENSING BARBERS, BEAUTICIANS AND MANICURISTS

     The Board of Barbers, Beauticians, and Manicurists has established professional standards and requirements for the licensing of these service and aesthetic careers.
     
     PURPOSE OF LICENSURE:
     To set standards of qualifications, education, training and experience for persons engaged in the fields of Cosmetology, Barbering, Manicuring and Aesthetics. To promote high standards of professional performance for those persons working in the profession.
     
     PERIOD OF LICENSURE:
     Permanent licenses are issued on an annual basis.
     Temporary Licenses are issued for three (3) months.
     
     APPLICATION PROCESS: Temporary and Permanent Licenses
     1) Complete and notarize application forms obtained from the Office of Boards and Commissions at the Department of Licensing and Consumer Affairs.
     2) Three (3) 2x2 photographs of applicant.
     3) Two (2) professional references.
     4) One (1) character reference.
     5) Copy of school transcript identifying number of hours completed in respective field.
     6) Valid Health Card.
     7) Verification of License from another state.
     8) Social Security Card.
     9) Non-refundable application fee of Ten Dollars ($10.00).
     10) Payment of Required License Fee.
     
     APPRENTICE LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:
     1) Completed and notarized application.
     2) Three (3) 2x2 photographs of applicant.
     3) Valid Health Card.
     4) Social Security Card.
     5) Letter from a Licensed Cosmetologist, Barber, Manicurist or Esthetician under whose direction, supervision and training apprentice will be working.
     
     EXAMINATION:
     Persons interested in becoming a licensed Cosmetologist, Barber, Manicurist or Esthetician in the Virgin Islands are required to sit a written and practical examination. The examination is administered in February and July of each year. The examination fee is Twenty Dollars ($20.00).
     
     RENEWAL OF LICENSE:
     1) A completed renewal application.
     2) A Tax Clearance Letter from the V.I. Bureau of Internal Revenue.
     3) Payment of required License fees.
     
     BEAUTICIAN $ 50.00
     BARBER $ 50.00
     ESTHETICIAN $ 100.00
     MANICURIST $ 75.00
     HAIR BRAIDING $ 100.00
     BEAUTY SHOP $ 75.00
     BARBER SHOP $ 75.00
     MANICURIST SHOP $ 100.00
     INITIAL SHOP LICENSE $ 150.00
     APPRENTICE $ 30.00
     TEMPORARY LICENSE $ 10.00
     BEAUTY SCHOOL $ 200.00
     
     REQUIRED HOURS:
     The following hours are required for permanent licensure in the respective fields.

     BARBER 500 HOURS
     MANICURIST 150 HOURS
     ESTHETICIAN 250 HOURS
