Addison Kamryn Coty received her Hebrew name, Ilana Eden, in a moving ceremony that featured surrogate grandmothers vying to hold the baby.
The May 25, 2007, baby-naming marked another life-cycle event celebrated by her mother, Darcy Feuerzeig Coty, in our Synagogue. Darcy became a bat mitzvah here in April 1984 and was married to Aaron Coty in a candlelight service in January 2005.
As Rabbi Starr explained during the ceremony, Addison's English names are in memory of Aaron's parents, Audrey and Karl Coty. Her Hebrew names -- kept a secret until that night -- are in memory of her maternal grandmothers, Penny's mother, Irene Zweigenhaft, and Hank's mother and step-father, Esther and Earl Fleeger.
Addison was born March 27 in Atlanta. The family traveled to St. Thomas especially for the baby-naming.
