Marilyn Blackhall, a past president of the Hebrew Congregation, is the new president of the Rotary Club of St. Thomas II.
"I know that Rotarians have the means, as ordinary individuals, to make a difference so long as we work together," she said in her installation speech July 12 at Marriott's Frenchman's Reef Hotel. "There is a part for each of us to play in the work that we must do. No one person can do it alone but the synergy and strength that we create together is awesome."
If that sounds like "tikkun olam," it's probably no coincidence! That's what comes naturally to Marilyn.
A Rotarian since 1991, Marilyn is a past president of the St. Thomas Board of Realtors and has played active roles in many community organizations, including the Chamber of Commerce, the Humane Society and Project STRIVE. She is now a member -- again -- of the Synagogue's board of directors.
In becoming a Rotary Club president, Marilyn follows in the footsteps of Rabbi Arthur Starr, who headed the young Sunrise club soon after moving to St. Thomas four years ago.
