Applying for a marriage license in the U.S.V.I.

     Step One: The application
     1. Fill out a marriage application form (on next page) and have it notarized.
     2. If either party has been married, you must send a certified copy of the divorce decree along with the marriage application form.
     3. Attach a cover letter to the two previous items that details
     a. The date of your arrival here.
     b. The length of your stay.
     c. When you plan on coming to the Territorial Court to pick up your license.
     Step Two: Post the application
     Upon receipt of the notarized application, an eight-day waiting period is required, during which time the application is posted for public inspection.

     Step Three: Pick up the application
     Before the marriage license can be issued, you must appear in person before the Clerk of the Court or his/her designee to be examined under oath.
     1. You will need to provide some form of identification, such as Passport, Voter Registration certificate, Driving License.
     2. No physical exam or blood test is required.
     Step Four: Pay the Fees
     All fees are to be paid by certified check, money order, or by cash (when paying in person). The fee for filing an application for marriage is $25.00 and it is not refundable. The fee for the marriage license is also $25.00. If the marriage is to be performed by the Judge of the Territorial Court, there is an additional fee of $200.00 for the ceremony itself. The Court cannot arrange for church or synagogue weddings.

     Office Hours of the Court:
     Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. except holidays; on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 o'clock (noon), except Carnival Saturday. By pre-arrangement, and upon payment of a surcharge of $150.00 per couple, the Court will be available on Sundays and holidays between 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. except on the following holidays when the Court will be closed: New Year's Day, Good Friday, Carnival Saturday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day.
     Although you may dress casually, slippers, shower thongs and shorts are not permitted when appearing before the Court.
