Claudette Young-Hinds, Board Member
A former Virgin Islands Government cabinet official and advisor to government, businesses, and NGO's, Claudette Young-Hinds brings extensive experience as a management professional in the public and private sectors. She has developed culturally competent materials for training in strategic planning and customer service and is dedicated to building institutions that acknowledge the inherent value in all persons and that commit to improve the quality of life for all. Her parallel career in the arts has been highlighted by performances at Jacob's Pillow, the American Dance Festival, New York's Dance Africa, and as a headliner of jazz ensembles at supper club's, hotels, and music festivals.
During the past 25 years, Claudette has served as Trustee/Officer on the National State Energy Advisory Board, and with The Boston Cultural Education Collaborative, The Access and Programming Foundation for Cable TV, Westinghouse Broadcasting Co. Fund for the Arts, the Roxbury Community School, Casa Myrna Vasquez, Inc., the Art of Black Dance and Music, Inc., and others. With Phillip Gerard, Michael Nueberger, and Lisa Torres, she was a founding member of the St. Croix Foundation for Community Development (Saint Croix Foundation) in 1990.
An honors graduate of Radcliffe College, Claudette earned a Master's Degree in Regional and Community Planning at M.I.T. She is the mother of three and resides in St. Croix with her husband, James.

Phyllis Bryan, Director, Community Business Loan Program
As the new director of the Saint Croix Foundation's loan program, Phyllis is responsible for all aspects of the loan application process. Having a wealth of experience in the financial industry, Phyllis has greatly strengthened the loan program.

Richard Austin, Board Member
Richard Austin, an attorney-at-law, presently serves as the executive director of Legal Services of the Virgin Islands and is also an ordained minister. Born and raised in southwestern Ohio, Richard has lived on St. Croix for the past 15 years. He holds a BS in Education from Central State University and an MS from New Hampshire College in Community Economic Development.
Richard, in addition his work with Saint Croix Foundation Board, sits on the Board of Directors of the Men's Coalition and the V.I. Legal Assistance Foundation and has traveled to many parts of the world including Africa, Southeast Asia and Latin America.
Having received many awards and honors, including a citation from President Bill Clinton for outstanding community service, Richard considers his work as an advocate to insure equal access to justice for low-income people, to promote civil and human rights and liberties for all, and the empowerment of other disadvantaged individuals as his life-long ministry.

Rita Morris, Grants Specialist
Rita came to the Foundation in 1994 as an AmeriCorps*VISTA volunteer and served two years after which she became the VISTA leader for a year. In 1995, Rita was hired as the full-time grants specialist tasked with researching grant opportunities for the Foundation. However, Rita serves the Foundation in a number of capacities and exemplifies the worth of the AmeriCorps program.

Robert A. Koch, Board Member
Robert A. Koch is a first vice-president and manager of Merrill Lynch, St. Croix office. He holds a degree in Finance and Real Estate from the University of Colorado and served with the U.S. Navy.
Invited to the Board by Michael Neueberger after attending a community seminar, Robert has served as the Board treasurer and brings a wealth of financial resources and information to the Saint Croix Foundation and is a firm believer in citizens' responsibility to advocate for change.

Roger Dewey, Executive Director
Roger has served as the Saint Croix Foundation's Executive Director since its inception in 1991 and has been instrumental in the growth of the Foundation.

Stephanie E. Hodge, Associate Executive Director
After serving as a board member for three years, Stephanie joined the Saint Croix Foundation's staff in April 1999, and is responsible for development and public relations.

Valdemar Hill, Jr., Board Member
Formerly a professor of business administration at the University of the Virgin Islands for over 20 years, Valdemar Hill, Jr. serves as the secretary of the Saint Croix Foundation Board of Directors. A native Virgin Islander, Valdemar acquired an undergraduate degree in languages and a master's degree in business administration from Inter-American University. He is a registered arbitrator with the V.I. Public Employees Relations Board, the American Arbitration Association and the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Services. Currently, Valdemar is the Human Resources Manager at HOVENSA LLC.
