Sunday Market Square Update 22A King Street
The firm of C/R Contractors was awarded the contract by the Foundation's Sunday Market Committee to perform the reconstruction of this building. The committee, to assure fairness, utilized a series of evaluation criteria in making the selection.
The Foundation then had to secure an additional $215,000 because the Community Development Block Grant of $247,600 awarded the Foundation to pay for the project would not cover construction costs. The additional funds were secured through the Virgin Islands Housing Finance Authority (VIHFA).
Ms. Janine Hector of VIHFA worked feverishly to make this partnership a reality. Claude Richards, Jr., Executive Director of VIHFA, admitted that the partnership was a departure from traditional VIHFA projects, noting, however, "[As] the successor agency to the VI Urban Renewal Board, it is fitting that the Authority lend its full support to this project which aims to stimulate the redevelopment of the Christiansted urban center."

The new parking lot located next to Crawford's Travel will, at press time, be complete. Solar powered lights, supplied by the VI Energy Office, will illuminate the lot, making it not only safer for users but for the general area as well.
Special thanks to VIAPCO who donated all labor and materials to pave the lot. Without their generosity, the project would have taken much longer to complete.
The twenty spaces are available on a monthly rental basis at $35/month. The Foundation does have liability insurance on the lot; however, it is not responsible for theft occurring on the property.
Anyone interested in securing a space can call the Foundation at 773-9898.
