Veterans to get 10 X more tax relief in 5 years
Tax relief is on the way for veterans, according to Gov. Fortuño, who spoke at a commemoration for them Thursday. As part of his message,at the Pedrín Zorrilla Coliseum in San Juan, he honored the men and women who have worked with the U.S. Armed Forces, According to his tax reform plans for military personnel, he said every veteran will get a deduction of up to $1,500 in the next tax return, for an average relief of $352, an 83 percent increase from the present $192.

PR economy gains traction in September 
The local Economic Activity Index (EAI) published by the Government Development Bank (GDB) gained ground in September after posting three straight months of declines. The EAI hit 128.4 in September, up from the 127.9 posted in August. The EAI was 128.1 in July and 129.8 in June.

Dayra Rivera saw the letter as a slap in the face for Puerto Ricans: No, Apple Inc. told her, you cannot have the free iPhone case promised to U.S. customers. Apple, which was giving out plastic cases because of problems with dropped calls, said it would not ship an to “international” destination. Never mind that Puerto Rico’s 4 million residents are American citizens, and that it is closer to the mainland than Hawaii.

Rosselló draws crowd at his Convention Center
Thousands of people turned out at the Puerto Rico Convention Center Saturday for a ceremony to rename the Miramar facility in honor of former Gov. Pedro Rosselló. The architectural jewel in Miramar stands among a series of high-profile infrastructure projects spearheaded by Rosselló during his tenure as governor including the North Coast Superaqueduct, the Urban Train and the Puerto Rico Coliseum.

House and Senate approve tax bill
The Fortuño administration introduced an increase in taxes for non local companies operating in Puerto Rico, as the first step of a sweeping reform program he is slated to present Monday.According to House Bill 2526, all outside companies would pay a gradual 10 percent new taxes for the next six years.The percentages will start at 4 percent for the first year of the program. They decrease annually until they reach 1 percent in the final year of the program.The idea was revealed during a rare Saturday session.Also stated in the bill is the implementation of a Source Rule, a measure intended to close down a tax collection loophole used by companies in which they sell or transfer...
