On Tuesday, April 23 the Library Services Department joins the world in celebrating 'World Book and Copyright Day'.
The idea for this day was launched by the International Publishers Association (IPA) and was submitted to the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) by the Government of Spain.
The day aims at drawing the attention of government bodies as well as the public at large to this means of knowledge, expression and communication, which despite the emergence of increasingly sophisticated media remains the basis of active education and critical thinking.
To highlight this day the Department will have a follow-up workshop on 'Copyrighting'on April 23 at the Training Division Conference Room at 7p.m. The workshop targets local artists who are interested in knowing more about the process of copyrighting.
On April 24 there will be an opening ceremony at Jost Van Dyke for the re-opening of the Jost Van Dyke Library at 10 a.m. On this day the Road Town Library will hold an open house for the public under theme 'A Day of Diversity at your Library'.
The week will culminate with the launching of a Story-time Programme on Saturday, April 27 at the Road Town Library at 10:30 a.m. Parents are invited to attend with their children.
The Department is encouraging the general public to participate in this year's Library Week. For more information you may contact the Department at 494-3701 ext. 4931/2.
